Bust Blank

2019

"Bust Blank," a 3D-printed bust, is all broken, glitched surface, with minimal thickness — a photogrammetric shell of of the artist embodying the form of a default avatar form by encasing herself in spandex. It recalls the legacy-preserving classical busts of figures like Cicero, yet glitched and fragmented, with eyes and mouth obscured.

Shortly after he published his classic treatise on ethics, De Finibus Bonorum et Malorum ("On the Ends of Good and Evil"), Cicero was assassinated, his severed head and hands — visceral symbols of his oratory — were displayed in the public Rostra in the Roman Forum, the site of many of his speeches.
